19th National Trainers Conference (NTC)

The 19th National Trainers Conference (NTC) with the theme “The GSP Trainer: Ready for Change, Ready to Lead” ran from May 28-30, 2008 at Ating Tahanan NPTC in Baguio City. A total of 112 trainers coming from the six GSP regions attended the event.

Invited as keynote speaker was Ambassador Isabel C. Wilson, former Philippine Ambassador to Spain. Tapped as resource speakers were Dr. Reylita E. Cubillas-Calimlim of Pines City Colleges who handled New Leadership Paradigm/Concepts and Models, Ms. Marissu G. Bugante of Philippine Association for Volunteer Efforts, Inc. (PAVE) who talked about Sense and Sensibility of Volunteerism, and PSr/Insp Ma. Theresa Guinto-Pucay of Baguio City Police Office who discussed Women and Children Protection. The workshops were facilitated by the Chairman of the Training Committee, Atty. Susan N. De Los Reyes together with her members, Mrs. Norma R. Valencia, Dr. Rosenda A. De Gracia and Ms. Margarite R. Ponce De Leon. Mrs. Yolanda C. Hernandez, GSP National Secretary and Ms. Ida Corazon I. Huliganga, former GSP Training Director also served as workshop facilitators.

During the opening of the conference, Mrs. Ma. Dolores T. Santiago, National Executive Director, lighted the NTC candle while Mrs. Teresita B. Choa, National President, gave the welcome message. The “thoughts to bring home” during the closing ceremony was imparted by 1st National Vice-President, Mrs. Susan R. Locsin. Other highlights of the event were the Barn Party and Commitment to Developmental Leadership Ceremony. The conference was a success in bringing together GSP Trainers from different parts of the country to learn and to enjoy each other’s company.

2008 National Training School (NTS)

The 2008 National Training School (NTS) was held last April 2-13, 2008 at the Ating Tahanan NPTC. Senior Troop Leaders Gathering conducted from April 2-4 was the curtain-raiser course. It was handled by Mrs. Rosalina R. Boquiren and Mrs. Marietta M. Villanueva, two veteran GSP trainers. The next two courses took off from April 6-8. Tapped for the Program Management Workshop were seasoned trainers - Dr. Josefina M. Parentela and Ms. Apolonia C. Castro. The sessions for the Junior Troop Leaders Gathering were handled by equally competent trainers, namely: Mrs. Juliet V. Gumpal, Mrs. Nenita F. Mate, Ms. Arlene A. Mabesa and Ms. Rosario Placida N. Robielos. Training for Trainers was the last course offered from April 9-13. A team of formidable trainers composed of Dr. Fe Violeta B. Taring, Mrs. Rosalina R. Boquiren and Mrs. Fe R. Badaguas handled the course. A total of 125 Troop Leaders, Volunteers and Staff participated in the four courses offered.

GSP National President, Mrs. Teresita B. Choa was present during the opening of the maiden course to lead the symbolic lighting of the NTS candle and give the welcome message. Mrs. Ma. Dolores T. Santiago, National Executive Director, and Atty. Susan N. De Los Reyes, Training Committee Chairman attended the closing ceremony to give the closing message and “thoughts to bring home”, respectively. Other GSP officials invited as NTS guest speakers were International Commissioner, Mrs. Divina A. Bautista, and Legal Committee Chairman, Judge Marybelle D. Mariñas.

National Training School (NTS) 2007-2008

The National Training School (NTS) 2007-2008 opened last November 2007 at the Helena Z Benitez NPTC in Tagaytay City. Courses offered were Senior Troop Leaders Gathering, which was held from November 22-24 and Star Troop Leaders Gathering, which ran from November 28-30. Veteran GSP trainers were tapped for this offering of the NTS.

For the first course, the team was composed of Mrs. Rosalina R. Boquiren (Pangasinan Council), Mrs. Marietta M. Villanueva (Makati Council) and Mrs. Ma. Jesusa S. Sampang (Rizal Council). The second course was handled by Ms. Gloria B. Echaluce (former National Executive Director/Diploma’d Trainer), Mrs. Beatriz N. Hualde (Davao Council) and Mrs. Marietta M. Villanueva.

Mrs. Ma. Dolores T. Santiago, GSP National Executive Director graced the Opening Ceremony of the first course to give the welcome message. The Vice Chairman of Program Committee, Ms. R Lauaan V. Tamesis was the one who welcomed the participants of the second course. Atty. Susan N. Delos Reyes, Chairman of the Training Committee attended the Closing Ceremony of the Star Troop Leaders Gathering to give the thoughts to bring home.
